African Giraffes might face extinction as numbers decreases greatly!
Conservationist and experts warns that the lack of attention on Giraffes have greatly affected the numbers of giraffes in Africa!
“Africa’s iconic mammal”
These gentle giants could possibly be facing extinction as experts within the wild warn that poachers and wildlife meat hunters are causing the rapid decrease. The numbers of giraffes stands as follows: Giraffes have fallen by 40 percent within the last 15 years, reduced the 140,000 giraffe population to less than 80,000. The common trend is quite alarming and the world needs to act immediately and put a stop to these decreasing numbers.
Many of the giraffe species are so unique that they should be classified as their own subspecies. Did you know, if the West Africa giraffe specie was given similar protection these animals would become the most endangered mammal in Africa.
There are nine different types of giraffe and the world will probably lose some of them… According to media reports there are two species that are already protect by IUCN Red List but still listed as least concern…
Its believed that these numbers are greatly decreasing due to hunters and poachers who are selling their heads at high prices.
